Replacing a dead node
Replace a node that has died for some reason, such as hardware failure.
You must prepare and start the replacement node, integrate it into the cluster, and then remove the dead node.
Confirm that the node is dead:
The nodetool command shows a down status for the dead node (DN)
- Note Host ID of the dead node; it is used in the last step.
- Add and start the replacement node as described in Adding nodes an existing cluster.
- Using the Host ID of the dead node, remove the dead node from the cluster using the nodetool removenode command. You may need to use the force option.
