Linas,

Unfortunately, we have not determined any workarounds for OpenVZ at this time. The Storage Capacity widget will not work, but you should still be able to view some of the data size metrics through the Performance section of OpsCenter. For example, I believe both the "Data Size" and "OS: Disk Usage" metrics should still work for you. I suggest watching these metrics from time to time in place of looking at the Storage Capacity widget.

I'll make a note with the information you provided (thanks very much for that, by the way) and let you know if we're able to come up with a fix in the future.

So i have found out that the problem is with my server, a quote from stackoverflow:

As you said in your comment, you're on a virtual private server (VPS). OpenVZ as well as other VPS solutions don't offer access to /proc/partitions. The whole /proc partition is a virtual filesystem (procfs). The structure is maintained in the kernel. So it will not work to manually create the file.

So apparently I can't use that command, what else could I do?

Are you running on EC2 or another cloud platform? If not, I'm interested in what hypervisor you're using (e.g. Xen, KVM, VMWare ESX, etc).

I am running Ubuntu 10.04, I am not sure about virtualization environment because I have very little experience with linux, could you perhaps be more specific about what you need to know?

Hi Linas,

The message about
/proc/partitions
is definitely the cause of the problem. What OS and version are you using? If the nodes are running in a VM, what is your virtualization environment like?

I am fairly new to cassandra so it might be bad configuration, but OpsCenter isn't showing storage capacity or any data related to the HDD usage.

I am using Cassandra 1.2.1 (not datastax product), it says "All agents connected" and I can see other data like reads & writes.

My logs doesn't seem to be indicating any problem relating to this problem, however it does show couple warnings which I haven't been able to solve yet, could this be my problem?

log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (org.eclipse.jetty.util.log).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.

I also see a this error being repeated a lot of times

cat: /proc/partitions: No such file or directory
