Philip,

The community (DSC) and enterprise (DSE) packages live in separate repositories. You can see the instructions for installing the DSE RPM here: http://www.datastax.com/docs/datastax_enterprise2.2/install/install_rpm_pkg

to the dsc support team:
you can ignore this post. I couldn't wait for a response, so i just uninstalled/reinstalled. But that didn't work too well either. Do you have any documentation of this process as it is not straight-forward.

Ans: cannot use yum remove to uninstall dsc12, use rpm -e cassandra12-1.2.1-1
No offense intended, but that is rather stupid.

I tried an uninstall/install in an attempt to fix a startup issue w/ cassandra due a change in the cassandra.yaml

# yum remove dsc12
# rm -rf /var/lib/cassandra
# rm -rf /etc/cassandra
# yum install dsc12

After a successful install, the dirs cassandra dirs in /var/lib, /var/log and /etc were not created. Seems like 1.2 was installed
rpm -qa | grep cassandra
cassandra12-1.2.1-1

I don't understand why the reinstall did not deploy the correct directories w/ appropriate file (e.g. cassandra.yaml).
Thanks

The cluster was running after initial installation/cfg. I stopped both nodes to make changes to the cassandra.yaml (e.g. cluster_name, endpoint_snitch). Per the instructions, i did a rm -rf /var/lib/cassandra/* to purge the existing data. Now the seed node won't start. From /var/log/cassandra/cassandra.log

I reverted back to the last known good version of cassandra.yaml and the seed node still won't start. fwiw, there is nothing in /var/lib/cassandra/*, which is probably ok, since the node did not fully start.
What daemon did not start?
Do i just need to remove/reinstall using yum?
Thanks,
