Expanding into Hybrid Cloud with DataStax Enterprise

To improve internal operations and better serve its customers, METRO, an international wholesale and retail food specialist company that operates in 35 countries, needed to migrate parts of its legacy systems to a microservices-based architecture and scale up to 165 clusters at data centers around the globe.

To achieve this transformation and also better manage its growing hybrid cloud database, METRO needed to successfully start using Google Cloud native services in conjunction with Apache Cassandra™.

The Opportunity

An international company operating in 35 countries and employing more than 150,000 people worldwide, METRO has a dedicated IT department that provides customized services and solutions for all METRO companies.

A few years ago, METRO initiated a complete digital transformation to redesign outdated technologies and replace old-fashioned legacy systems to improve internal operations and better serve its customers.

To achieve this, METRO needed a stable and secure data management platform that could work efficiently across multiple divisions and also support a successful migration to a hybrid cloud environment.
