What is DataStax Luna?

DataStax Luna is subscription-based support for open source Apache Cassandra™.

DataStax Luna subscribers enjoy all the benefits of open source software plus peace of mind from direct access to engineers, and C* committers who have authored a majority of the Cassandra code and supported some of the largest and most mission-critical Cassandra deployments for the past 10 years.  

How does Luna benefit open source Cassandra users?

DataStax Luna subscribers can develop and deploy applications with confidence. DataStax Luna subscribers will get support with general-purpose and technical questions for their open-source Cassandra deployments, and if an issue is encountered, DataStax is there to help.

What support options are available?

There are three support tiers:

  • Bronze: Well suited for enterprises that want support for development or staging clusters.
  • Silver: Well suited for enterprises with production workloads on open source Cassandra with lower SLAs.
  • Gold: Well suited for enterprises with production workloads on open source Cassandra with demanding SLAs.

What’s included in Bronze?

Bronze support includes:

  • Yearly subscription with the option of monthly or yearly billing
  • 8x5 local technical support for Cassandra 2.1, 2.2, or 3.x
  • Up to eight tickets per year per cluster

What’s included in Silver?

Silver support includes:

  • 8x5 local technical support for Cassandra 2.1, 2.2, or 3.x
  • Up to fifteen tickets per year per cluster.
  • Support SLAs for high priority tickets - 4 hours 

What’s included in Gold?

Gold support includes:

  • 24x7 global technical support for Cassandra 2.1, 2.2, or 3.x
  • Unlimited tickets

Are there other options for customers with unique requirements?

Yes.

For companies with unique requirements or large-scale deployments, custom support plans are also available. To find out more about these plans customers can either fill out the contact form on the Luna web page or contact their sales rep.

What versions of Cassandra does Luna support?

DataStax Luna will support the most widely deployed open source versions that our customers tell us they are using, which are 2.1, 2.2, and 3.0.x and 3.11.x. We will not support custom Cassandra builds or forks.

Will we support OSS users that use third-party "enhancements" to OSS (like OSS implementations of LDAP, auditing, etc)?

No, third-party enhancements are not supported.

Can customers upgrade between Luna packages? ( Bronze, Silver, and Gold)

Yes, enterprises can transition between Luna packages. Please contact luna@datastax.com for more info.

Do you offer support for both cloud and on-premises based deployments?

Yes. Customers will be supported irrespective of their deployment model (e.g., on-premises, cloud, hybrid etc.)

How is a node defined from a pricing perspective?

A node is defined as a single Linux Java Virtual Machine that runs an instance of Apache Cassandra.

Supported nodes within a Luna subscription can exist in any cluster including development and production.
