How would you connect a mobile application to a cloud database ? During this session we will build in front of you a working application with database integration. We will start with a blank application and will walk you through how to implement the backend service.

Session Details

Swift is a great first (or second, third) language to learn for iOS, macOS and even watchOS programming. It’s native, open source and also has a server side component for compute/data intensive tasks. We will build a simple full stack app with both mobile and server components in Swift.

We will be using the NoSQL database Apache Cassandra, but don’t worry, you won’t have to install anything as we will be using DataStax Astra - Apache Cassandra as a service.

Prerequisites

We will be using DataStax Astra to create and retrieve our data using the HTTP API, so you do not need to install anything prior to the workshop

OPTIONAL : To run the iOS application on your machine, you will need Xcode (version 13 or higher) and as such a Mac. If you want to use it please download and install it before the session (12.6GB) .Not to worry, we will fill in gaps with demos if you don’t have the entire tool suite.
